Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors 2026 Scholarship

Women art students of Sophomore and Junior status who are enrolled in art classes at an accredited college or university in the Detroit Tri-county area are eligible.

This year’s award is $2000.

Application deadline is Friday, March 13, 2026.

Detroit Roots: A Shared History, on view at the Detroit Public Library (Main Library) from January 12 - April 30, 2026, will celebrate our shared connection to Detroit as the city approaches its 250th anniversary in 2026. We’re especially excited for this show—it’s both a tribute to our beginnings in Detroit and a reflection of our shared humanity within the DSWPS family. The exhibition closes April 30, 2026

About DSWPS

The Detroit Society of Women Painters and Sculptors is one of the oldest self-sustaining women's art organizations in the United States, having been founded by Lillian Burk Meeser on February 23, 1903. Its mission since inception has been to quicken interest in art movements of the day, to stimulate high achievement, active work, and mutual helpfulness among members, and to provide encouragement and support for art students. It achieves these ends by holding juried exhibitions of its members' work, sponsoring interesting and informative programs, and awarding an annual scholarship to a qualified woman student attending art classes in an accredited college.
